Kim Dunn ’81 died on September 11, 2024, in Anchorage, Alaska, her longtime home. A visual studies major at Dartmouth, Kim sang in the Glee Club and completed a Tucker fellowship in Jersey City, New Jersey, and an Upper Valley internship. Friends fondly recall the smell of turpentine emanating from Kim’s dorm room due to her paintings in progress. After graduation she shared a fifth-floor Manhattan walk-up apartment with classmates Beth Harris and Susie Nutt before heading to law school in Berkeley, California. She returned to Alaska in 1985 to practice law, as she always said she would. Her areas of legal expertise included employment, housing, and Alaska Native law. The law firm she founded merged with Landye Bennett Blumstein LLP in 2000. She remained a firm partner until her passing. Kim cared deeply about helping Alaskans and found satisfaction through her work and serving on nonprofit boards. Ever an artist, Kim enjoyed giving her artworks to friends. She was an enthusiastic reader, gardener, and cook. She enjoyed travel with friends and family and never failed to welcome visitors who made the trip to Alaska. Kim cherished spending time with her family and loved to escape into nature and relax at the family cabin. Kim was predeceased by her parents, Yurn and Wallace; she is survived by her husband, Tom; daughters Emma and Alys; and three siblings. Her loved ones remember Kim’s perceptive insights, generosity, creativity, and wit.
