Keith graduated from Sterling (Colorado) High School and attended Dartmouth for two years, studying engineering and participating in the DOC and Glee Club. He transferred to University of Colorado in Boulder, majored in electrical engineering, and graduated in 1958. He spent the next two and a half years studying radio waves at Byrd Station in the Antarctic. While there he joined several extended expeditions into the interior. Marks Peak, on the side of Mount Hampton in Western Antarctica, is named for him. Returning to the United States, he earned his master’s in electrical engineering at Stanford University. He lived in San Francisco and built a vacation home on Lake Tahoe, California, especially enjoying skiing there in the winter. In 1972 he bought a house in Orinda, California, which kept him busy with its maintenance, remodeling, and upkeep. After retiring from IBM, he went to work as a computer systems engineer for Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co. until 2004. Keith had a personal life full of adventure and travel. He skied in Europe, went on safari in Africa, and explored Egypt, Asia, Australia, and South America. He is survived by his wife, Judy; daughter Jennifer; and grandchildren.
