Joseph Bonnell-Hall ’14 passed away on January 24. Joseph was born on August 18, 1992, in Portland, Oregon, and graduated as valedictorian from Lakeside High School, where he participated in varsity football, wrestling, and track and field as well as leading his peers as class president. At Dartmouth Joseph was a member of Alpha Theta and graduated with a double major in environmental studies and Native American studies. He completed the environmental studies foreign study program in Pretoria, South Africa, focusing on water resource management. Joseph continued to pursue this interest after Dartmouth, working in a variety of roles within the Coeur d’Alene Tribe’s natural resources, fisheries, and fire management departments as well as developing a STEM outreach program focusing on hydroelectric and renewable energy with Idaho National Laboratories. He earned a permaculture design certification in 2023 and began a master’s in the science and management of water resources at the University of Idaho in the fall of 2024. Joseph is survived by his parents, James and Selene; siblings Josh (and partner Kellie) and Shayoo; and grandparents Jim and Ruth. Memorial donations may be made in his name to Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute, Ecosystem Restoration Communities, or the Arbor Day Foundation.
