Jon Patrick Gould ’79 died on September 9, 2025. Jon was born on January 17, 1957, and grew up in Hawaii, where he attended Punahou School. At the time of his death, Jon lived in Seattle. At Dartmouth during freshman fall, Jon lived in a triple in Hitchcock Hall and classmates fondly remember his blonde hair, Hawaiian shirts, and puka-shell necklace and how he would skateboard across campus. A friend recalls Jon “had the surfer vibe and hair, along with his Hawaiian puka beads. He always mentioned he lived on the big island on Hawaii. Jon was always racing around the campus meeting people, partying, and discussing unanswerable questions of philosophy. We picture Jon exactly as he was that first day: salty, carefree, and riding an endless wave.” Jon went home for the holiday break freshman year and did not return until the following year. He majored in philosophy and participated in student workshops. After graduation Jon moved to Seattle and worked in the automotive industry for Husky International. He participated in alumni interviews for Dartmouth.
