John C. Lehman ’63 died on June 11. He was born in New York City and was raised and attended high school in White Plains, New York. At Dartmouth John majored in English, was a brother of Phi Gam, and performed with the rock and roll band The Drivers. After graduation he was a Dartmouth Alumni Fund and admissions volunteer and served as class vice president for five years. John said that he averaged a job every 6.5 years since graduation. The jobs were usually connected with advertising and the outdoors, beginning with stints at an advertising agency and a TV station, followed by founding his Station Program Resources. He then joined AT Communications/The Outdoor Source, which provided sales, service, and production of outdoor TV programming appearing on TBS and ESPN and sponsored The Great Outdoors Festivals, enabling more than 1 million attendees to experience the outdoors. Most of these jobs involved his love of hunting, shooting, fishing, and boating. He said: “And they call this work?” In 1990 John married Sharon, bringing together John’s two children with Sharon’s three children. John also published The Fish and Game Forecaster and The Moon Clock, respected sources still in print. He was much at home in Block Island, Rhode Island, and was a longtime board member of the Block Island Maritime Institute. In addition to Sharon and his children and stepchildren, he is survived by eight grandchildren.
