James D. Brackett ’58 , D.M.D., died October 8, 2025, in Georges Mills, New Hampshire. Jim grew up in Waltham, Massachusetts, and graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy. At Dartmouth he majored in biology, was a member of Delta Upsilon, and senior year rowed with the heavyweight crew. He joined the National Guard before earning a dentistry degree at the University of Pennsylvania in 1965. Jim completed his internship in Worcester, Massachusetts, and opened a dental practice in Hanover in 1967. He offered general dental care, including full orthodontic care, from his home office until he retired in 2014. Jim was a member of Wellspring Worship Center, the International Academy of Orthodontics, the New Hampshire Dental Society, and Gideons International. In the 25th class reunion book, he wrote, “The real enjoyment of life is to sit with my wife in total quiet next to our warm woodstove watching the soft, sparkling white snowflakes floating down.” When asked for his views on politics, he said, “Pray for less big government and a return to the republic form of government.” Jim is survived by his wife, Georgia, two daughters, one son, and three grandchildren.
