James Buckingham Pinkerton Jr. ’59 died on November 16, 2017. He entered Dartmouth from the Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida, majored in English and was a member of Delta Tau Delta. Following graduation Jim became an officer in the U.S. Navy, serving several years on active duty and later for more than 25 years in the Navy Reserve, retiring with the rank of captain. As a civilian he became a technical writer, first as an employee and later as a self-employed consultant. Jim was raised in the Cocoa, Florida, area and spent most of his life there. He was an avid swimmer and hiker. He and his first wife had two children. In 2016 he and his second wife, Linda, moved to her hometown of Fayetteville, Arkansas. He leaves Linda, children Alyssa and James and two grandchildren.
