J. Douglas Miller ’65 passed away in Needmore, Pennsylvania, on March 6. He came to Dartmouth from Braintree, Massachusetts. A chemistry major, he was a member of Kappa Sigma and Dragon and captained the wrestling team. Doug went on to earn an M.E. from the State University of New York in Buffalo in 1967. After teaching for a short period, Doug became involved in the telecommunications industry. He worked for NCR, where he contributed to the development of bar codes. He also worked for Sprint and LM Ericsson, a Swedish telecommunication company that prompted many business trips to Sweden. In 1985 Doug started CDR of Washington, which developed a telephone call accounting and call management system for IBM PC users, and served many clients throughout the United States until Doug’s retirement. His interest and curiosity led to much travel, nationally and internationally. From an early age he had a keen interest in shotguns and rifles and throughout his life he was a member of shotgun, rifle, and pistol clubs. He was an accurate and skilled marksman, competing and winning awards in many regional shooting competitions. Doug moved to the Needmore area in the late 1970s, when he designed his longtime home. Doug is survived by longtime partner, Britt; brother Ronald and his wife, Barbara; and cousin Robert.
