Herbert G. Swarzman ’58 passed away in Tampa on August 27, 2025. Herb was born in Brooklyn, majored in philosophy and English and was a brother at Pi Lambda Phi. He earned a law degree at Brooklyn Law School in 1967. Herb’s career was in the investment business, and he eventually formed Gulfcoast Consultants & Investors in Tampa. An active Dartmouth alum, he served as class president, alumni fund chairman, district director of enrollment for New York City, and president of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of N.Y.C. Herb was also a tireless advocate for Israel, working to strengthen U.S.-Israel relations and advancing Jewish causes. He was passionate about taking politicians to Israel for the first time and introducing them to the spirit of the country and its people. Herb was recognized with numerous awards and honors, including the 2009 Jewish National Fund Lifetime Achievement Award. Herb’s wife, Joyce, died in 2023. He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth.
