Guillermo K. Rojas Hernandez ’13 passed away on June 9 in New York City. He is survived by his parents, Antonio and Delia, and sister Kimberly. Guillermo was born in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico, in 1991 and grew up in Park City, Illinois, and Oxnard, California. He earned his A.B. in film and studio art at Dartmouth and went on to complete a master’s in computer science from the University of Illinois, Chicago. He loved New York City, where he’d been living since 2019. To many of his Dartmouth peers, Guillermo was family, someone who encouraged a sense of belonging and community. They cherish memories of hearing him play guitar, sharing stories and ideas, voraciously reading the newspaper every day and talking about politics. He wanted to make Dartmouth a more inclusive place for everyone through a belief in the power of honest conversations, mutual help, and respect for others. Loved ones will remember Guillermo for his kindness and loving nature alongside fierce activism, courage against injustice, leadership, passion for learning, and contagious laughter. He stood up for his queer and trans community and had deep Mexican pride. Community oriented and grassroots to the core, in the words of his family, “He died as he lived, the friend of all.”
