George Willis Fugate Jr. ’65 died on November 2, 2025, in San Francisco after several years of failing health. He came to Dartmouth from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. An art major, he was a member of Phi Tau and a senior fellow and earned the Robert Frost Award for poetry. He received a spring fellowship award at Pratt Institute, where he earned an M.A. in fine art and film. Will then attended the University of Maryland, earning a degree in computer science. Though a full-time software engineer, he continued to write music and relocated to Nashville to try songwriting. When this dream faded, he returned to Washington, D.C., married Merry, and then relocated to San Francisco. Will worked with the Coopers & Lybrand accounting firm and then Pacific Bell Co. He retired and spent his golden years raising daughter Anwyn. Will was blessed with diverse interests and an array of talents yet found it challenging to interact with people. In midlife he found he was probably on the autism spectrum. He realized early on that engaging in sports provided an opportunity to connect with others. He was especially athletic with golf and tennis, which he enjoyed into his later years. He is survived by Merry and Anwyn.
