Frederick G. Coggin IV ’58 , Tu’59, died on August 29, 2025, in Evanston, Illinois. Skip will be remembered for living out his father’s advice to accentuate the positive, not the negative. He was born in Detroit and came to Dartmouth from Bloom Township High School in Chicago Heights. Skip majored in economics, was a brother at Sigma Chi, and active in the yacht club. He earned an M.B.A. at Tuck in 1959, spent six months in the Army, then worked for W.R. Grace and Polaroid, living in Marblehead, Massachusetts. Later he moved to the Chicago area as general manager of Williams Manufacturing, the leading producer of chiropractic tables. Skip’s father taught him to sail and race, but he never accomplished his youthful goal of sailing around the world. He did, however, get to the Olympic trials in 1968 and later was an avid member of the Chicago Yacht Club, racing and cruising his 33-foot sailboat on Lake Michigan. His first marriage ended in divorce, and he married Elizabeth Stone in 1983. He and Liz traveled the world, sailed whenever they could, and, in retirement, spent winters in Naples, Florida. He served the College for many years as an alumni fund volunteer and admissions interviewer. Skip was predeceased by Liz and his first wife, Wynn. He is survived by three daughters plus Liz’s three children and their 11 grandchildren.
