David Kantor ’78 died on August 25, 2025, in Baltimore after a battle with cancer. David came to Dartmouth from Syosset High School in Muttontown, New York, and lived in New Hamp freshman year. He majored in physics and mathematics and was involved in the Marching Band, the Wind Ensemble, and the Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra. He was also in the cycling club. David received a master’s in mathematics from Stonybrook University in 1980 and a master’s in computer science from New York University in 1992. David worked at the Johns Hopkins Institute for Policy Studies and for the last 20 years or so worked as a senior systems analyst for Data for Decisions in Waltham, Massachusetts. His wife, Robin, writes: “David had a gift for music, was talented at the viola and piano, and enjoyed arranging music. We played in a klezmer band. He was a skilled woodworker and loved tinkering around the house, be it electrical or plumbing projects. He was focused on helping the environment and worked with me to create a well-appreciated native garden at our synagogue.” Son Eric said David was “a carpenter, cook, mathematician, dancer, cyclist, animal lover, gardener, and world’s best dad.” In addition to Robin and Eric, David is survived by stepson Josh and brother Billy.
