Coleman P. Colla ’58 , Th’59, passed away in Los Angeles on September 3, 2025. He was born in Philadelphia and grew up in nearby Haverford, Pennsylvania, and Buffalo, New York, where he graduated from the Nichols School. At Dartmouth he majored in electrical engineering, graduating summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He was president of Theta Delta Chi, a member of Casque & Gauntlet, served as a freshman trip leader ,and was active with DOC and Winter Carnival. In 1959 he received an M.S. at Thayer School and then drove cross-country to a job with Hughes Aircraft in California. Coleman also worked at IBM and other companies before joining Rockwell International for the next three decades. Along the way, he earned an M.B.A. at Cal State Fullerton. Divorced after 20 years of marriage, he married Nadine in 1986 and later converted to Judaism. A series of ear problems led to a forced retirement, which he found difficult. In 2023 Coleman wrote, “I have been most fortunate to have studied Torah for many years with three wise and stimulating rabbis. I am an atheist, cultural convert to Judaism … if that makes any sense.” His father, Stanley, was class of 1933. Nadine and his first wife, Leslie, survive, along with three children and 10 grandchildren.
