Charles Joseph Queenan Jr. ’52 passed away at home in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on December 3, 2025. Chuck was born in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania, on August 13, 1930, and came to Dartmouth from his home in Pittsburgh. He graduated cum laude with a combined Tuck-Thayer degree in business administration and engineering. At Dartmouth he was a member of Beta Theta Pi and the lacrosse team. Following that he earned a degree at Harvard Law School in 1956 and practiced his entire career at the Pittsburgh law firm now known as K&L Gates, one of the country’s most noted firms. He rose to become senior counsel and chairman of the firm’s audit committee before retiring. He was also very active in business, education, and community organizations, serving on many boards of directors, including many years as chairman of Carnegie Mellon University. In 2014 Charles, a practicing member of the Catholic Church, received an honorary degree from Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. Charles and JoAnn Hawkins, high school sweethearts, were married on June 22, 1953, and enjoyed a partnership for more than 70 years before she passed away in 2021. Chuck is survived by his daughter Suzanne, son Charles III ’78, daughter-in-law Jeri, and four grandchildren.
