Bruce Alan Biagi ’68 died at home in Shelburne, Massachusetts, on August 22, 2025, of Merkel cell carcinoma. Formerly of Worthington, Ohio, he had been a professor at the Ohio State University College of Medicine. Bruce grew up in upstate New York and graduated from Albany Academy. At Dartmouth Bruce majored in geography, was a member of Alpha Theta, and competed on the swim team. He went on to the University of Rochester, where he earned a Ph.D. in physiology followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at Yale. His academic journey also took him to Sweden, where he was a visiting scientist at the University of Uppsala. Although he dreamed of becoming a physician, he did not pursue medicine directly but fulfilled that calling by inspiring and shaping thousands of future doctors as a teacher, mentor, and leader. He led programs at Ohio State University College of Medicine, developed the university’s biomedical sciences undergraduate major, and received a distinguished educator award. Beyond academia, Bruce was committed to Buddhist principles and practice and was supported on this journey by his family. In recent years Bruce and his wife, Tricia, whom he met hiking in Olympic National Park, Washington, made their home in the hills of western Massachusetts, where Bruce reconnected with his Buddhist practice. This faith gave him strength and grace throughout his illness. Bruce is survived by Tricia, children Mike and Jennifer, four grandchildren, and adopted daughter Sophia.
