Norman Stone Jeavons ’52

Norman Stone Jeavons ’52 of Pepper Pike, Ohio, died July 15. Norm was born on April 18, 1930, in Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated from Storm King School in Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York, and Dartmouth. At Dartmouth Norm majored in sociology, was a member of Zeta Psi and the International Relations Club, and worked on the Jack-O-Lantern magazine. Norm then joined the U.S. Coast Guard as a lieutenant, j.g., and after military service, he earned a law degree from Western Reserve Law School in 1958. He served on the law review and received the Order of the Coif. He joined the law firm Baker, Hostetler and Patterson (now Baker Hostetler) in 1958 and spent 46 years at the firm, retiring in 2004. He also served as the chief outside legal counsel for the Cleveland Clinic during the clinic’s early expansion. Norm was a longtime member of the Court of Nisi Prius and he served as judge of the court in 1993. He also served a number of community, educational, and philanthropic associations throughout his life. Norm married Kathleen “Kitty” Chezworth Taze of Cleveland on July 16, 1960; she predeceased him in June 2013. Norm will be remembered for his good humor, quick wit, and genuine caring for others. He is survived by daughters Kathleen Stone ’85 and Ann Lindsey ’92. His brother, Robert ’48, and his father, W. Norman, class of 1919, predeceased him, as did daughter Elizabeth.
