Joel “Ike” Eiserman ’65

Joel “Ike” Eiserman ’65 lost his three-year battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease on April 29. He grew up in Lake Bluff, Illinois, and “came east” to attend Dartmouth. At the College he was active in Dragon, Green Key Society, Interdormitory Council, and Palaeopitus. He played football and was a member of Navy ROTC. Following graduation he started his naval career, which included 26 years of service, both active and reserve. He retired as a Navy captain. He met and married Rachel while stationed in Newport, Rhode Island. He continued his education, receiving an M.B.A. from Babson College and a master’s in information systems from Bentley College. After his retirement from the Navy, he transitioned to jobs in computer software with PeopleSoft and Oracle. Rachel and Ike raised sons Bob and Bill in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Ike was proud of his sons and devoted to his seven grandchildren. As his health failed, he made it his business to watch his grandchildren’s sport and school events online. Ike is survived by Rachel; son Bill and wife Dianne; son Bob and wife Marci; grandsons Billy Jr., Chris and wife Samantha, Shane, Cole, and Caden; granddaughters Kenzie and Adeline; brothers Jerry and wife Trish and Kenny and wife Mary Anne; and sister Jo Ellen and husband Randy.
