David William Blacksher Jr. ’54

David William Blacksher Jr. ’54 passed away on December 29, 2017, in Mobile, Alabama. He came to Dartmouth from Mobile. He had attended University Military School. Billy was a brother of Phi Gamma Delta. He was commissioned in the U.S. Army and served two years at Aberdeen, Maryland, as executive officer of a training division. Upon discharge he joined the First National Bank of Mobile. In 1960 he and his brother purchased a building supply business, Government Street Lumber Co., which they operated for many years. The business sold building supplies and did some real estate development and construction financing. He served several organizations in Mobile, including as president of Kiwanis, president of the Isle Dauphine Country Club and as a director of Commercial Guarantee Bank. He was predeceased by his wife, Katheryne, and son David III. He is survived by daughters Katheryne and Lynn.
