Jackson O. Welsh ’47

Jackson O. Welsh ’47 died in Topsfield, Massachusetts, on July 26. He was born December 4, 1924, in Mount Airy, Maryland, where he grew up and attended high school. He joined the Navy and, as a member of the V-12, was sent to Middlebury College. He was transferred to Dartmouth in 1946, when he majored in economics, sang in the Glee Club and served as an editorial associate for The Dartmouth and as secretary for his fraternity. He later earned an M.B.A. from New York University. He held positions with both General Electric and Clark-Dodge, living in New York City and Ridgefield, Connecticut. In the 1970s he relocated to Topsfield, where he founded Gannett, Welsh and Ives Inc., which later became Gannett, Welsh and Kotler, an investment management firm in Boston. He and his partners were at the forefront of municipal bond investment portfolios for individuals and institutions. As a 52-year resident of Topsfield he was a member of the Congregational Church and planning board. He enjoyed reading and listening to classical music and opera as well as climbing in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. He is survived by his wife and five children.
