James Whitney Hall III ’55

James Whitney Hall III ’55, M.D., passed away on March 28 at his home in Medford, Oregon. Jim came to Dartmouth from Traverse City High School in Michigan. He took premed courses and was a member of the track team and Sigma Nu. With the help of writer-in-residence Corey Ford, Jim developed a lifelong interest in writing about hunting and fishing. After completing Dartmouth Medical School he received his medical degree at Harvard and then completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Minnesota. Jim joined the clinical faculty at Stanford University in 1962 as an assistant professor of internal medicine, specializing in infectious diseases. He opened his own medical practice in 1973 and moved to Medford, where he combined his medical profession with his love of the outdoors. Jim wrote a book, Doc Hall’s Journal, and many articles for hunting and fishing magazines. He served Dartmouth as a member of the reunion giving committee and alumni interviewer for admissions. Jim is survived by son James IV and daughters Deborah and Wendy.
