Stephen Charles Meterparel ’52

Stephen Charles Meterparel ’52 of Brookline, Massachusetts, passed away on October 13, 2015. Steve was born on February 27, 1931, in Massachusetts. He graduated from Boston Latin School in 1948 and entered Dartmouth, where he received a degree in history and was a member of Sigma Chi. He was also a skilled baseball player, playing on the freshman team and earning a varsity letter. Sports was in his blood. While serving in the U.S. Army after College, Steve was a public information officer with focus on sports. He then joined an advertising agency in Boston, followed by eight years with WBZ radio and TV in Boston. In 1965 he joined Beacon Sports network, becoming president and owner in 1969. The company produced and packaged radio and TV programs, mostly sports. The company broadcast Dartmouth sports, mainly football, in the Boston area and around New England. Steve eventually retired and joined the Boston Red Sox baseball organization in the public relations area, including conducting tours of Fenway Park. In 1966 Steve and Jane Adelman were married and had children Lynne and Jon. Although they later divorced, Jane survives him, as do his children and five grandchildren.
