Stuart Bruce Freeman ’59

Stuart Bruce Freeman ’59 died on January 3, 2015. He entered Dartmouth from Leonia (New Jersey) High School and was in the five-year Tuck School program. He was a member of Army ROTC and, following graduation from Tuck School, served as an officer in the Army Medical Corps, including a recall to active duty during the Berlin Crisis. Stu began his business career with Arthur Young & Co. In 1966 he joined Madison Square Garden Corp., where he rose to become executive vice president and chief financial officer until it was acquired by another company in 1978. For the next 10 years he was an executive with several companies, including the New Jersey Nets and Andal Corp. In 1988 he joined a law firm headquartered in Providence, Rhode Island, and became, following several mergers, chief administrative officer for the Edwards, Wildman, Palmer Law Firm, which eventually had 14 offices in the United States and abroad. Stu retired in 2012 and lived in Farmington, Connecticut, with Jane, his wife since 1976. They were avid and nationally known breeders, owners, trainers and exhibitors of Portuguese water dogs, and he served as president of the parent club for that breed. He leaves Jane, sons Todd and David, daughter Tobi, three grandchildren and his sister, Marjorie.
