Robert Buxton Rowlond ’47

Robert Buxton Rowlond ’47 died on January 29, 2014, at home in Windsor, Vermont. He grew up in Hartford, Connecticut, and attended William Hall High School. He enlisted in the V-5 Navy aviation program at Hobart College and then came to Dartmouth in the V-12 unit. In college he majored in history, played in the band and ran on the track team. After graduation he taught school for one and one half years before going into insurance with Aetna, where he worked from 1948 to 1967. He was recalled to active duty in the Navy from 1952 to 1954 and served on a minesweeper in the Pacific. He became a chartered property and casualty underwriter and an associate in corporate risk management. After working for several insurance agencies he joined Benjamin, Connor, and Walker in Hartford as vice president. He moved to Windsor in 1977 to become special agent for the New Hampshire Insurance Co. He retired in 1992 to enjoy his hobbies of barbershop singing, fishing, competing in the Senior Olympics and travel. He and his wife enjoyed teaching their grandchildren to play cribbage and taking them on camping trips. He is survived by his wife, a sister and two children.
