Eric Alan Jones ’68


Eric Alan Jones ’68 died on December 4, 2011, at the Life House in San Diego following a lengthy illness. Eric came to Dartmouth from Wayland, Massachusetts. He was extraordinarily active at Dartmouth, serving on the class executive committee and in the Undergraduate Council, performing in the Glee Club and Injunaires, and founding the Dartmouth Religious Liberals Club. Eric was also a member of Kappa Kappa Kappa. While an undergraduate he directed several musicals at Hanover High School, and after graduation continued there as a teacher. He also worked at the Dartmouth Travel Bureau, beginning a long association with the travel industry. In 1973 he was one of the founders of a summer theater program in the area, which became the active North Country Community Theater. In 1976 Eric moved to Boston, first to work with a travel agency and eventually to establish his own company, First In Travel. In 1997 he moved to San Diego, where he established another travel agency. He had been in declining health for several years, but never lost his joie de vivre. A favorite quote of his was, “Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass…it’s about learning to dance in the rain.” He is survived by his long-time companion, Michael Trueblood.
