Donald Davis Eddy ’51

Donald Davis Eddy ’51 died on November 30, 2009, from myelodysplasia in Ithaca, New York. He was born in Norfolk, Virginia, and grew up in Hammond, Indiana, graduating from George Rogers Clark High School. Don majored in chemistry, was a member of Green Key, head usher of Council on Student Organizations and ROTC. After three years in the Navy, during which he married Edith Ann Quattlebaum in 1954, he resumed his studies at the University of Chicago, obtaining his M.A. and Ph.D. in English. Cornell University hired him in 1961 with a joint appointment in the English department and the department of rare books. He retired in 1996 and read, collected and wrote books. By 1999 he had published his 22nd volume. Besides his family he had many passions such as the opera, ballet and Cornell hockey. The Adirondacks became an arena for him and his family as they hiked and camped and canoed for nearly 50 years. He is survived by his wife, Edie, daughters Evelyn and Elizabeth and two grandchildren.
