Robert David Bustard ’68

Robert David Bustard ’68 died in Sarasota, Florida, on December 20, 2024, of a heart attack. David grew up in Havertown, Pennsylvania. At Dartmouth he was a government major and participated in intramurals, Undergraduate Council, and Interfraternity Council. David was active in Bones Gate, where he served as pledge master and later as president his senior year. David is remembered “as one of the most easygoing, supportive of friends in that era when the country was roiling in turmoil and our futures were very unsettled. He ruled over our rather wild-spirited gang of Bones Gate brothers with great calm, mutual understanding, and good nature. He clearly had strong inner values and a temperament for leadership.” Generous to a fault, he loaned his Corvair to a classmate so he could meet the father of his future wife. After Dartmouth David received his J.D. from George Washington University Law School. He also served in the U.S. Army Reserves. After graduating from law school David worked for law firms in Washington, D.C., before joining RKO in New York City for 12 years, then Uniroyal Technology in Sarasota, and finally the law firm of Williams Parker. David was predeceased by his son, Chris ’10. He is survived by his wife, Elaine, daughter-in-law Kate (Lyon) ’10, and grandson Theodore.
