Rex H. Roberts ’65

Rex H. Roberts ’65 passed away on October 21, 2024, in Nashville, Tennessee. He came to Dartmouth from Hattiesburg, Mississippi; he was treasurer of Sigma Nu Delta and played hockey goalie and pitched softball for his fraternity team. Rex entertained friends and family with stories of how he hitchhiked the 1,500 miles between Mississippi and New Hampshire during summer breaks and holidays. Shortly after graduation Rex and Karen married and moved to Nashville, where Rex earned his law degree from Vanderbilt University. He began a long and successful career at National Life and Accident Insurance Co., serving as general counsel and corporate secretary. He was a respected industry leader, serving four terms as president of the Association of Tennessee Life Insurance Cos. He also spent many years teaching insurance and insurance law at the Nashville School of Law. After retiring in 1999 Rex pursued his passions—teaching Bible studies, playing golf, and reading. His faith was central to his life, and he served as a deacon at Bellevue Church of Christ from 2014 until his passing. Known for his wonderful sense of humor and quick wit, Rex spent cherished time with friends, enjoying games and conversation with his neighbors. He is remembered for his warmth, generosity, kindness, and wisdom. Rex is survived by wife Karen; son Jeremy and his wife, Kira; and grandsons Jack and Charlie. He leaves behind a family who will forever be grateful for his guidance, love, and unwavering support.
