Stafford H. Krause ’57

Stafford H. Krause ’57 died on September 2, 2023, after a long illness. Staff graduated from Greenwich (Connecticut) High School. He received his A.B. in 1957 and an M.B.A. from Tuck School in 1958. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta, the Dartmouth Christian Union (vice president, chairman of the hospital commission), and the rifle team. Staff began work at U.S. Steel in Pittsburgh. In 1963 he relocated to Rochester, New York, where he worked for Xerox Corp. and part time for several consulting firms. He became chief financial officer for Canandaigua Wine Co. (now Constellation Brands), then went full time into business consulting for the rest of his career. He was a member of the region’s Ski Valley, Canandaigua Yacht Club, and St Thomas Episcopal Church. Upon retirement Staff moved to Tucson, Arizona, where he was active in community theater and performing music. Here is an excerpt from his musical, Trail Happy, on the RV lifestyle: “I’ve been fishin’ for life for so many years/Through school, through work, through success and through fears/I’ve recently learned that what may be best/Is not to have more, but to have less./There’s gold in the hills, the lakes and the sky/And all around us that money can’t buy/There’s platinum too in a smile and a touch/That lifts your heart and says so much.” Staff is survived by his wife, Dawn, sons Todd and Drew, and four grandchildren.
