Francis Parker Caswell ’54

Francis Parker Caswell ’54 passed away February 4 in Salem, Massachusetts. He came to Dartmouth from Marblehead (Massachusetts) High School, where he was an All-Scholastic football and baseball player. At Dartmouth he majored in history, was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, the football team, and ROTC. In 1966 he earned his M.Ed. at Salem State College. Parker served in the Marines for two years in Virginia, California, and Hawaii, reaching the rank of first lieutenant. He began his teaching and coaching career at Kimball Union Academy in New Hampshire and after two years returned to Marblehead High School, where he was a beloved math teacher and coach for 35 years. He coached baseball and basketball and his love, football. He also worked closely with the athletic office as faculty manager, taking care of ticket sales for games and school events. He was a member of the Marblehead Garden Club Hall of Fame. Parker loved family and being a part of his kids’ lives, having coached each son in Little League, youth baseball, and midget football. When his wife, Carolyn, fell ill he retired early to take care of her and cashiered at CVS. He spent the last few years of his life at the John Bertram House in Salem. Parker was predeceased by Carolyn, brothers Herbert and James. He is survived by sons Peter, Andrew, and Jonathan; two grandsons; and one great-grandson.
