William F. Messerly ’63

William F. Messerly ’63 passed away peacefully on January 21 in Cumming, Georgia. Bill was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey; moved to Charlotte, North Carolina; and attended Myers Park High School, where he was active in cross country, track, wrestling, and the yearbook. At Dartmouth Bill earned a degree in history and worked in Baker Library at the reserve desk and the rare book department. He received an M.B.A. at the Wharton School in 1965 specializing in marketing. He was an admissions ambassador and regional club officer for Dartmouth after graduation. Bill and Linda Jackson were married in 1964 and the couple moved to Georgia, where Bill built custom homes in the North Atlanta suburbs for 15 years. In 1990 Bill purchased a 5-year-old courier-transportation company, Courier Express, which had six employees. Soon after Bill’s two sons joined him in the business, which grew to become an industry leader in the Southeast. Bill became chairman emeritus after 10 years and he and Linda split their time living in Florida, Georgia, and the mountains of North Carolina. They traveled to all seven continents, focusing on historical sites following Bill’s interest in history. Bill is survived by Linda, two sons, and six grandchildren.
