Mark R. Stebbins ’76

Mark R. Stebbins ’76 passed away unexpectedly and peacefully on June 17, 2021. Mark grew up in Manchester, New Hampshire. His athletic tenacity in the pool earned him a scholarship to Dartmouth, where he majored in economics, held longstanding records in the 50 and 100 freestyle, and was honored as an All-American. After working as a banker in New York City, he moved back to Manchester and began working in the family construction business. He ultimately grew Procon into the largest design-build construction company in New Hampshire. Mark was a consummate entrepreneur, willing to outwork anyone. In addition to Procon, his hotel development company, XSS Hotels, owned the largest number of hotel rooms in greater Boston. He also owned a fabric company, a biotech company, a senior living development company, a commercial real estate brokerage, and innumerable commercial real estate developments. He truly loved his work and the people he worked with. Mark felt a deep need to give back to the community and was generous both financially and with his time and expertise, pushing nonprofits to think strategically and develop sustainable models. Together with his wife, Sally, he supported organizations helping children and families throughout New Hampshire and the arts in Portsmouth. Mark is survived by Sally and children John, Jennifer ’09, and Lisa and their families.
