Richard L. Davison ’63

Richard L. Davison ’63 passed away on July 5 following a long illness. He was born in Madison, Wisconsin, and attended Rufus King High School in Milwaukee. He matriculated at Dartmouth and completed his undergraduate degree at University of Wisconsin-Madison. He worked for a brief time for Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati and then earned a doctorate in chemical engineering from Purdue. His adventuresome spirit took him to Australia, where he taught at the South Australia Institute of Technology in Adelaide and explored the Outback. Dick and his family moved back to the United States and he began a 25 year career at Amoco in Naperville, Illinois, developing patented processes for refining oil. Following several years as a consultant to Union Oil Products in Des Plaines, Illinois, he officially retired. He was a longtime resident of Wheaton, Illinois, and was a golfer, tennis player, sailor, and cross-country skier. He and his family made annual excursions to the Canadian Boundary Waters for camping, canoeing, and fishing. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 60 years, Barbara, two sons, and four grandsons.
