F. Scott Corey ’57

F. Scott Corey ’57 died of heart failure on March 3. Scott graduated from Towson (Maryland) High School. At Dartmouth he majored in economics, was in Sigma Chi, served on the Interdormitory Committee, and was in Navy ROTC. Upon graduation he was commissioned as an ensign and rose to the rank of lieutenant through stations in Newport, Rhode Island; Norfolk, Virginia; San Diego; and Japan. He returned to Baltimore and took a job at the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Co., which later become Bell Atlantic and Verizon. Through the years he was in data processing, human resources, and eventually was marketing manager. His long career at the telephone company allowed him to experience many aspects of the business. During union strikes he was a temporary telephone operator and pay phone collector. Scott had a lifelong affection for sailing on the Chesapeake Bay. He kept his boats at Gibson Island. He honed his skills as a woodworker and loved to sail the bay with his wife and four children on first a 20-foot boat, then a 27-footer and finally a 34-footer. Scott lived a quiet faith. He was a longtime congregant at the Central Presbyterian Church in Towson. He filled various church roles and was head of a building campaign, an adult Sunday school teacher, and an elder. After retirement he became a volunteer carpenter. He helped build 22 homes for Habitat for Humanity. Scott is survived by his wife, Carolyn; daughters Amy, Deborah, and Mary; and son Scott.
