Richard Randolph Kinnier ’52

Richard Randolph Kinnier ’52 passed away at Vineyard Park Retirement Community in Mountlake Terrace, Washington, on April 23. Dick was born in New York City on February 3, 1931, grew up in Westchester County, and graduated from Eastchester (New York) High School. He graduated from Dartmouth in 1952 with a modified degree in government and international relations. He was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa, Glee Club, and Dartmouth Outing Club. A Navy ROTC student, he then served three years before returning to Hanover to earn an M.B.A. from The Tuck School in 1957. After a short business career with a manufacturer in the Northeast, Dick joined the federal USAID program in 1966 and was assigned to Saigon, Vietnam. Following this two-year assignment, he served with the Federal Economic Administration and the U.S. Department of Defense until 1993. His last assignment was as western regional director in Seattle, and he remained in the Seattle area in retirement. Dick was an enthusiastic pilot and, as part owner of a Cessna plane, took many exciting trips throughout the country. On December 20, 1952, Dick and Janet Kimmel (Smith ’53) were married in New York. They had children David, Jennifer, James, and Wendy. His wife, children, and numerous grandchildren survive him.
