Henry Ward Williams Jr. ’52

Henry Ward Williams Jr. ’52 of Scottsville, New York, died at home on November 29, 2021. Henry was born on January 12, 1930, in Rochester, New York. He graduated from Deveaux School in Niagara Falls, New York, and from Dartmouth, where he was an English drama major, a member of Delta Upsilon, and a very active alumnus. He served as a U.S. Navy officer from 1952 to 1955 before attending University of Virginia Law School, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif, Raven Society, and Omicron Delta Kappa and executive editor of the law review. A member of the Monroe County and New York State bar associations and Genesee Valley Trial Lawyers, Henry began work at Harris Beach law firm before ultimately opening Williams Law Offices. As a lifelong citizen of the Rochester area, he was active in many civic and volunteer organizations. Henry began sailing at age 10 and raced in Newport to Bermuda classics and many others. He was member of the Rochester Yacht Club (60 years) and the Great Lakes Cruising Club (50 years), where he earned the Admiral Byfield Award for sailing each of the Great Lakes. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Barbara; daughters Edie, Margaret, Sarah, Ann, Lancey, and Victoria; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
