John W. Timbers ’64

John W. Timbers ’64 passed away in Bethel, Connecticut, on May 23, 2019. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Charlotte and William Timbers. John graduated from Darien (Connecticut) High School in 1960 and Dartmouth with honors in 1964, majoring in government. One could say he minored in student government and sports, for he was a class officer for four years (including president for three years), on the Undergraduate Council (four years) and Judiciary Committee (three years), Palaeopitus, and ski, cross-country, and track teams for four years. He was a revered member of Kappa Kappa Kappa, where he is sorely missed. After Dartmouth John attended the University of Edinburgh in Scotland as a Rotary scholar. After graduating from Harvard Law School in 1968, he clerked for the Hon. Inzer Wyatt on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. From 1973 to 1976 he served as an assistant U.S. attorney for that district under Paul Curran and Robert Fiske Jr. He later practiced law as an associate at Sullivan & Cromwell in New York City and in private practice in Stamford, Connecticut. John is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marilyn, five children, five grandchildren, and siblings Nancy, Dwight, and William Jr.
