Marcel Charles Durot Jr. ’52
Marcel Charles Durot Jr. ’52 passed away on October 7, 2020, in Oak Park, Illinois. Marcel was born on September 9, 1929, and came to Dartmouth from Newton High School in Massachusetts. He was on the freshman swimming team and was a member of Phi Gamma Delta. After receiving his A.B. he obtained an M.B.A. from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration in 1953. Following two years of active duty as an officer in the Navy he joined the Gillette Co. in Boston in the accounting department. He attended the Boston College Law School evening division for three years and received a law degree. During his 22 years with Gillette, Marcel became a corporate vice president and was variously president of Gillette France, the Paper Mate Co., the Gillette toiletries division, and the Toni Co. He spent three years with the Mattel Co., after which he joined G.D. Searle Inc. As vice president of Searle and general manager of its consumer products division, he was instrumental in the successful launch of Equal Tabletop Sweetener. Following the sale of Searle to Monsanto, Marcel started a consulting business, which led to assignments in Latin America, Europe, and Russia. For many years Marcel was an active Dartmouth alumnus and served terms as class newsletter editor and class secretary. Marcel was a sailing enthusiast and active with the national Outward Bound organization. His wife, Charlotte, four sons, a daughter, two stepdaughters, 13 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren survive him.
