Corrin John Hodgson ’57

Corrin John Hodgson ’57 of Rochester, Minnesota, died on November 28, 2020, of advanced prostate cancer and heart and lung disease. John graduated from Rochester (Minnesota) High School. He was premed, a zoology major, a member of Alpha Theta, played rugby, worked at WDBS, and was in the DOC. He anticipated attending Dartmouth Medical School, but when his fiancée, Harriet, couldn’t find a teaching job in Hanover, he transferred to the University of Minnesota Medical School. He earned his M.D. in 1960 and finished a residency in neurology at the Mayo Clinic. With the Berlin Crisis draft, John served 10 years as a flight surgeon and director of medical services at Air Force bases in Idaho, Alabama, Ohio, and Vietnam. He completed training in aerospace medicine and at the NASA Manned Spacecraft Center. He rejoined Mayo, where his practice was devoted to aviation, occupational, and general internal medicine. He was medical director for Northwest Airlines. From 1988 to 1992 he served on the board of the International Academy of Aviation and Space Medicine. He was president of the Airlines Medical Directors Association and consultant to IBM, the FAA, and the U.S. Air Force surgeon general. John retired from the Air Force as colonel and in 1991 retired from Mayo to become medical director of 3M. He and his family thoroughly enjoyed their barn-style home. John is survived by Harriet, his wife of 63 years, daughter Amy, and her family.
