Carlisle C. Ky Lewis Jr. ’54

Carlisle C. “Ky” Lewis Jr. ’54 passed away on December 30, 2019, in San Diego from heart failure. Ky was born October 21, 1932, in Jamaica Long Island, New York. His family moved numerous times before putting down roots in Shaker Heights, Ohio, where he attended high school. At Dartmouth he was a member of Delta Tau Delta and ROTC and played soccer and baseball. After graduation Ky served in the Navy for two years, married Ann Nieman, then attended law school at the University of Michigan. He moved his family to San Diego in 1959 and ran a private law practice for a number of years before trying other business pursuits, including a commercial real estate brokerage, until 1985. He then turned to enjoying sailing, golf, skiing, racquetball, and tennis. Ky will be remembered for his wit, charm, and competitive zeal. He grew to appreciate the value of family and the love of his children and grandchildren and took great pride in their accomplishments and lives. As he wrote: “I’m very much in love with life and having a ball!” He is survived by his sister; children Ky III, Reid, and Tracy; and grandchildren Maret, Ky IV, Taylor, Jamie, and Riley.
