Robert Lewis Fairbank Jr. ’60

Robert Lewis Fairbank Jr. ’60 died on July 16 in Dayton, Ohio. Bob was born in Cleveland on June 17, 1938, to Robert L. and Dorothy Tomkinson Fairbank. He graduated from the University School in Shaker Heights, Ohio, where he was captain of the basketball team and won the annual Cleveland foul-shooting contest. At Dartmouth he majored in geography, played four years as the sixth man on the College basketball team (which won the 1959 Ivy League championship), and was a member of Phi Delta Theta and Dragon. He joined the U.S. Marine Corp Reserves in 1961 and then went on to earn his M.B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School. Bob worked for Abbott Laboratories in Chicago and Mexico City, where he became fluent in Spanish. In 1995 he moved to Miamisburg, Ohio, where he served as financial officer at Midwest Fasteners Inc. until he retired in 2017. Bob was an expert at solving crossword puzzles and an avid reader of history. He also loved to entertain family and friends with karaoke. He is survived by his wife, Leta, daughters Wendy Anne and Elsa Marie, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
