Michael Heitner ’60

Michael Heitner ’60 passed away unexpectedly on October 19, 2021, at his home in Waterbury Center, Vermont. Son of Rose and Manny Heitner, Mike lived a storied, loving childhood in Brooklyn. A graduate of Poly Prep Country Day School, Mike was a member of the Pre-Law Club, Spanish Club, Dartmouth Outing Club, and crew, where he served as treasurer and coxswain of the heavyweight crew team. After graduating with a major in English in 1960, he earned a J.D. from Yale Law School. Mike enjoyed a distinguished 50-year career as a lawyer at Herrick, Feinstein in New York City, where he practiced corporate finance, sports, and entertainment law, including drafting contracts for televised world championship boxing matches. An avid skier, sailor, and cyclist, Mike loved the outdoors and was a fixture on the slopes at Stowe Mountain. He loved Dartmouth, volunteering from 1979 to 2017 as a regional club officer and interviewer and on the Alumni Council. His stalwart support of Dartmouth rowing and the National Rowing Foundation gave him great pleasure throughout his life. His deepest well of joy was his family. He is survived by Susan, his wife of 54 years; son and daughter-in-law Sam and Vanessa; and grandsons Santiago and Matías. The memory of Michael’s profound love and integrity will live on in all those who had the privilege to know him.
