Maxwell Fernald Eveleth ’60

Maxwell Fernald Eveleth ’60 died peacefully on June 21 with Carol, his wife of 63 years, by his side. Max was born on April 2, 1938, in Schenectady, New York, to Maxwell Sr. and Renie. He attended Kennebunk (Maine) High School, where he set the state record in shot put. He transferred to Phillips Exeter Academy and attended Dartmouth, majored in economics, and was secretary of Phi Gamma Delta. In 1957 he married his high school sweetheart, Carol, and supported his young family through a milk and sandwich route while in college. After graduation he and his family moved to Bangor, Maine. His first job was for IBM, and Max sold the University of Maine its first mainframe computer. From there he and his family moved to Brewer, Maine, where he coached the Brewer Pop Warner team to a state championship. In 1965 the family moved to Melrose, Massachusetts, where they would spend the next 18 years. Max continued to work in technology as the VP of sales for Urban Data, International Data Group, and Microintegrations. He was an active alumni interviewer for Dartmouth. Max belonged to Bellevue Country Club in Melrose and Webhannet Golf Club in Kennebunk Beach, where he was a senior club champion. When he reached semi-retirement, Max and Carol settled down in their Kennebunk Beach summer home. Max is survived by his wife, four daughters, one son, 12 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
