Louis O. Springsteen ’48

Louis O. Springsteen ’48, who was living in Westwood, New Jersey, died December 22, 2016. Louis attended the public schools in Forest Hills, New York, served in the Army in World War II and graduated from Dartmouth, where he was active in the Dartmouth Christian Fellowship. He worked for S.S. Kresge and then attended New Brunswick Seminary, graduating in 1953. His first church was the New Prospect Reform Church in Pine Bush, New York, where he met and married his wife, Ellen. In 1958 he became minister of Trinity Reformed Church in Old Tappan, New Jersey, and retired in 1991. He served as a president, secretary and trustee of the Holland Society of New York; as clerk of the Classis of the Greater Palisades, New York; as interim pastor at the Old Paramus Reformed Church in Ridgewood, New Jersey, and the Old Stone Church of Upper Saddle River, New Jersey; and as supervisor of the Community Church of Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey. He is survived by Ellen; son Howard and his wife, Anne; daughter Carol and her husband, Bob; son Michael and his wife, Heidi; and six grandchildren. Louis was an active supporter of the College throughout his life and held a variety of positions with his regional Dartmouth club.
