Loring Wayland Wood ’45

Loring Wayland Wood ’45, M.D., of Venice, Florida, died July 24, 2009. He came to Dartmouth from Worcester, Massachusetts. He spent three years as purser-pharmacist in the U.S. Maritime Service in both the Atlantic and Pacific. He returned to Dartmouth Medical School in 1947 and received his M.D.C.M. from McGill University. He served as a Navy flight surgeon during the Korean War and returned to a private practice in Buffalo. He then moved to New Canaan, Connecticut, and took over as medical director of New York Telephone Co. in 1967. Loring retired from that position and became a healthcare resources management consultant until he moved to Florida in 1996. Throughout his life Loring was always deeply involved in the greater community and Dartmouth affairs. He was an active sponsor of the class reunion in Florida. He is survived by his wife, Alice, whom he married in 1947, children Karen and Eric and six grandchildren.
