Leighton Coleman “Cole” Dorsey ’52

Leighton Coleman “Cole” Dorsey ’52 passed away in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, on April 19. Cole graduated from Friends School in Wilmington, Delaware, in 1948 and graduated from Dartmouth in 1952 with a government degree. He was a member of Chi Phi and active in the DOC. Cole then graduated from Harvard Law School in 1955 and practiced law in Wilmington, first with a law firm and then in partnership with his father. Cole was an activist and experienced many challenges involving civil rights, ACLU, and other societal issues on both a local and national level. He also proudly raised children Alison, Bryan, Joan, and Michael. Daughter Joan lost her life in a tragic ski avalanche in Colorado in 1983. He is survived by her siblings and his wife, Astrid, whom he married in 1984. Cole was an active Dartmouth alumnus, especially in fund-raising and local club affairs.
