Jonathan David White ’75

Jonathan David White ’75 of Merrick, New York, passed away on December 17, 2022. He was born to Jacqueline Wright and Harry Beaumont White in Monterey, California, on April 10, 1953. He grew up in Berkeley, California, and graduated from Berkeley High School, where his mother taught for more than 20 years. Jon moved in the 1980s to New York City, where he met and later married Santa Cruz. They shared children Stefan and Gabriel and raised them in Queens, New York. Jon spent his professional career working in city government finance and education. Jon loved life, adventure, music, and history. Jon was a genuine, caring individual. To us he was always Jonny White, not Jon, not White—Jonny White. He was a valued fraternity brother who carried himself with a maturity that many of us lacked at the time. Jonny White mingled effortlessly with his fraternity brothers and those among the Dartmouth community who he would refer to as his actual brothers. Race may have been an issue with some in the early 1970s, but Jon traveled those sometimes-turbulent waters with an inner grace. He was a friend to many and will be remembered by all of us at Zeta Psi as a very large and integral part of our collective experiences.
