Jonathan D. Woods ’73

Jonathan D. Woods ’73 died suddenly from heart complications on September 19, 2021, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Jon came to Dartmouth from Mount Vernon High School in Alexandria, Virginia. At the College he majored in psychology, played rugby along with intermural sports, and volunteered in the Big Brother program. Jon was a member and vice president of Sigma Theta Epsilon. He was also a member of Dragon and Green Key. Following graduation, Jon attended the University of Oklahoma College of Law, where he and a classmate founded the rugby team. After receiving his law degree, Jon served for nine years as an assistant municipal counselor for the City of Oklahoma City, followed by three years in private practice. In 1990 he joined the Oklahoma Municipal Assurance Group (OMAG) as an associate general counsel, becoming in 2008 the company’s deputy global counsel and director of human resources. In 2014 Jon was appointed OMAG’s chief executive officer, the position from which he retired in July 2021 after 31 years with the business. He was an adjunct professor at the Oklahoma City University School of Law and at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Jon’s community commitments included service as a scoutmaster and coaching numerous sports teams on which his son and his daughter played. An avid outdoorsman and talented athlete, Jon enjoyed running, cycling, skiing, and water sports. His is survived by his wife, Rhonda Lynn, son Zane, and daughter Emma.
