Jon Robert Stockholm ’60

Jon Robert Stockholm ’60 passed away unexpectedly from pneumonia on April 13 surrounded by his family. He was born on April 2, 1938, in Chicago and attended Oak Park High School. At Dartmouth he was active on the Ski Patrol and participated in the rugby club as a member of the first American university to play in England in 1958, when the team won five of seven games. Jon was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Dragon and played on the football and wrestling teams. After graduation Jon entered officer candidate school and was selected for the underwater Navy demolitions team. In 1962 Jon was one of 50 chosen to form the first SEAL team. During his time with SEAL Team One, Jon was selected as one of the 10 team officers and traveled to Vietnam to determine the SEAL role there. He served as the assistant platoon commander for the first deployment and earned the nickname “Moon.” He left the Navy in 1964 and returned to Chicago to operate the Stockholm Cleaning business with his brother, Ray. He then met and married Donna Sullivan in 1966. He and his family moved to San Diego in 1984, where he was engaged in several businesses for 45 years. He is survived by Donna; children Kristin, Carl, Kate, and Janine; and six granddaughters.
