John William Sant ’43
John William Sant ’43 died October 27, 2014, at his home in New Castle, Pennsylvania. John attended the East Liverpool (Ohio) High School and graduated from the Peddie School in Hightstown, New Jersey, where he was a member of its glee club and dramatics club and played football. He attended Dartmouth briefly and graduated from Carnegie Mellon in December 1942. He served as a naval officer during World War II with duty on shore patrol, Service Squadron 10, and on the USS South Dakota. John was president and CEO of the Universal Rundle Corp. from 1962 to 1984, president and CEO of the First Western Bank Corp. from 1984 to 1990 and partner in Unitas Industries from 1990 to 2000. He served on many boards of directors, including the companies listed above, Westminster College and the Hoyt Foundation and was chairman of the board of Jameson Hospital. Away from work John enjoyed golf, skiing, sailing, hot air ballooning and horseback riding. John was predeceased in 2001 by his wife, Elizabeth, whom he married in 1942, and his later companion, Jeanne, who died in 2010. He is survived by children Elizabeth, John and Catherine, eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
